We are youth with disabilities, crafting resilience through art. We weave it into our communities in the face of violence, abuse, and discrimination, and uplift our other identities--as people of Color, as queer, as trans, as people in religious and ethnic minorities.

We welcome your submissions!

A Shadow Land

Among the brusque
of shadows
are ones with enough force
to strangle
a million weak.
Forceful, vengeful
they move here & there,
waltz in the wind.
As freedom
grows in our soil
roots are pushed aside.
Fresh, from a rebel wind
we sway from the hand
of the shadow.
We dance in the sun
  temporary and fleeting
            only to return
until we break through
the undergrowth
of blackness and sin.
We must consume resilience,
when we are bursting
then we can deny
      the shadow.

[A card, on white paper. On one side, the artist has very lightly shaded the background with red and purple crayons, so lightly it seems grey-ish. in various places on top of that, it says: “Be different” “Be Change” “Be Peace” “Be Love” “Be Strength” “Be Community” “Be Light” and “Be Open.” On the other side, the background is plain white. It says, “Be You!!!” This is underlined by six lines in various colors that get smaller as they go down, and below them is a pink heart.]

[A handmade card decorated with markers and crayons. The writing is in different colors and different orientations, all over the card. It says, “Love can come in so many different ways. Community can be formed in a variety of ways. Connection can go any direction. And you are your agent to define these terms.”  ”Community can mean just you & me or you, me & historical figures in books.”  ”Let’s learn to love ourselves unconditionally, because we’re Queens, Kings, and everything between.” The card is decorated with star- and flower-shaped sequins and drawings of hearts, stars, plants, and a wheelchair user/accessibility symbol.]

All across the page are different religious symbols written in crayon — a jewish star of david, a christian fish symbol, a cross, a ying yang, a muslim crescent and star, a hindu om sign, a buddhist wheel, a pagan pentacle and more. There is a row of stripes like a rainbow in the scattered images as well.]

[Image of a white sheet of paper that is laid out horizontally. There are words all across the paper that are written in different color markers. In the left top corner, written in purple is a message that says “There are going to be ups and downs but the ups makes the downs seem like a distant memory”. Directly below is a message written in green that says “Everyone matters. You may not know it but you’ve changed, and will continue to change for the better.” Below the green message is one written in red. The red message says “Everyone is different, it’s what makes the world great.” Below the red message is a blue one that says “You make the world better by just being yourself.” In the top right corner is a red message that says “When you least expect it, something will come along making life better, new interesting. Below the red message is green message written in capital letters. It says “LIVE.” In the middle of the page is a purple message that says “You are not alone. There are people who have gone through this and made it through.” ]
